Supporting the Cooperative Movement in Guyana’s Artisanal Fisheries Sector
At Cipriani College, we take pride in contributing to initiatives that foster sustainable development and community empowerment. Our recent collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) exemplifies this commitment. The project, titled “Support to the Cooperative Movement in the Artisanal Fisheries Subsector in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to Promote Decent Work and Food Security,” focuses on strengthening the cooperative ecosystem within Guyana’s seabob fisheries value chain.
This initiative aims to enhance cooperative governance, improve business management practices, and promote sustainable fisheries methods. Special attention is given to empowering women and informal groups, ensuring inclusive participation and equitable benefits for all members. Supported by the FISH4ACP program led by the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), the project aligns with our mission to support resilient, inclusive, and sustainable fisheries.
Cipriani College serves as the key partner in needs assessment, designing tailored training programs, and implementing strategies that foster community-led growth. Through this collaboration, we are committed to creating lasting positive impacts—advancing food security, promoting decent work conditions, and strengthening the artisanal fisheries sector for future generations.
