Francois-Walcott Social Justice Marathon 2025 – A Memorable Celebration of Resilience and Equality
On July 20th, 2025, Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies, in partnership with BAFA Sports, hosted the inaugural Francois-Walcott Social Justice Marathon in Valsayn, Trinidad. Over 450 passionate participants came together for this historic event, which transcended a simple race to become a powerful symbol of social progress, resilience, and community unity. The marathon was held in honor of pioneering women and labor leaders Elma Francois and Clotill Walcott, whose legacies continue to inspire the fight for justice and equality.
The day began early with participants gathering at 5:45 a.m., ready to start their journey at 6:00 a.m., from the Cipriani College campus. Throughout the event, highlights included the distribution of magnificent finisher medals, vibrant race photography capturing moments of determination and camaraderie, hydration stations to support participants, and various age-group prizes celebrating diverse achievements.
This marathon served as a tribute to the enduring legacies of Elma Francois and Clotill Walcott, whose stories of courage and advocacy continue to inspire. It was a day where personal achievement and social consciousness merged, encouraging all to remember that every step taken in solidarity contributes to a more just and equitable society.
