Spotlight Initiative Programme

The National Trade Union Centre of Trinidad and Tobago (NATUC) in partnership with CCLCS, launched a series of workshops under the Spotlight Initiative Programme, a global multi- year partnership between the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN). It was acknowledged that the abuse inflicted against women and girls, and also men and boys, cuts across income, age, class and cultural divides, impinging on and compromising their fundamental rights and freedoms and that gender- based violence (GBV) could also be manifested in the workplace.

It is within this scope, that NATUC and CCLCS, having recognized the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment in the workplace to facilitate interventions that can positively impact employees and by extension their families, developed these workshops.

The workshops’ structure was aimed at developing and implementing awareness and education on the prevention of gender- based violence (GBV) in the workplace, as well as, training in mechanisms used to treat GBV in the workplace.

Dr. André Vincent Henry, Director of CCLCS and Ms Renée Maria Cozier, Certified Mediator, facilitated these workshops and participants included leaders, shop stewards, research officers and key decision makers in the trade union movement.
