Rudy Lovell
Rudy Lovell is a teacher with a passion for trade unionism and occupational safety and health (OSH), both of which he actively practices as the President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT). Mr. Lovell was elected as the President of the BUT on 5th February 2022. Mr. Lovell was also elected as a Zone 3 representative for the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) to serve for the period 2022-2025. He was also elected as a Trustee at the Caribbean Union of Teachers ( CUT) Biennial Conference in July to serve from 2023-2025. His aim is not only to see the BUT agitate for the rights and improve conditions for teachers but also to educate them professionally.
Mr. Lovell holds a First-Class Honours degree in Technical and Vocational Education and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health. He considers himself a student of health and safety and believes that “nothing is of greater importance than the preservation of human life”. Mr. Lovell is the representative for the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations (CTUSAB) on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH).
