Alicia Roberts – Former Executive Officer of the Communications Workers Union
Presentation Title – The Marginalization of Women within the Trade Union Movement
Alicia Portia Roberts is currently a PhD student at the Institute of Gender and Development Studies, University of The West Indies, St. Augustine. Ms. Roberts has a B.A and M.A. in History and was formerly employed as a Fleet Supervisor at TSTT. She is a trained radio and television announcer, was the Public Relations Officer for the Atopa Dance Company of which she was also a member and was the first female President of the Consolidated Telephones Credit Union in San Fernando. A former Executive Officer of the Communications Workers Union, her field of research focuses on Women, Gender and Trade Unionism. Her goal through her research, is to empower more women to take up the mantle of leadership in the trade union movement.
