After the successful co-hosting of the Inaugural Annual Labour Day Awards Ceremony in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development last year (http://cclcs.edu.tt/labour-awards-2011/), Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies (CCLCS) is now pleased to inform members of the public that the Call for Nominations of Individuals for the Labour Day Awards 2012 are now open.

Criteria For CCLCS Labour Day Awards

Awards would be presented to individuals (both males and females) from organizations in different sectors that embody the spirit of Labour Day and the struggle of workers from the past and today. This would include individuals that have made outstanding and long service contributions to Labour and the Working class. Further, details are outlined in the Criteria for Labour Day Awards.

Important Dates

Nominations for suitable candidates will be accepted from Wednesday 1st February 2012 to Monday 30th April 2012.

This year’s Labour Day Awards Ceremony will be held in June 2012.

Details About Nominations

Nominators are asked to submit the following:

(1) A Completed Nomination Form; and

(2) Name of a Prospective Nominee (including a one-page summary outlining the reasons for your selection of this Awardee and some of the achievements of this individual).

Copies of the Nomination Form and the one page summary should be submitted to:

The Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies successfully held a Panel Discussion on Tuesday 25th Ocotober 2011. The activity was undertaken in order to celebrate International Credit Union Month 2011 and it evoked vibrant participation from the leaders of the sector.The theme of the event was “Re-inventing Local Credit Unions to Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century”  and participants, as well as panelist took the opportunity to bring important and relevant issues to the forefront and recommend solutions and approaches that the sector may adopt as we move forward in the 21st century . Some the critical areas identified during the discussions included:

• The concept of shared branching needs to be explored by the sector
• The need to make the credit union sector more attractive to the youths
• Greater use of technology required in credit unions as this can significantly affect competitiveness
• Deliberate grooming of our future leaders need to take be undertaken
• Women provide balance in the credit union movement and their roles should not be limited to particular areas
• Credit unions when expanding, need to improve in the area of cost management
• Credit Unions are socio-economic transformers linked to the “grassroots” of society
• The co-operative philosophy is the foundation for the re-inventing process in the credit unions sector

The College remains committed to the development of the local credit union sector and in this regard, will continue to provide forums for the sector to develop strategies and solutions. Further, the College as the local premier educational organistion in labour and co-operatives, will continue to provide the high level of training, education and development for these two sectors.

It was launched in 2001 with a five-year circulation period, thereafter reporting on events at the College publishing industry related articles of interest to our major external stakeholders.

CIPRI has a readership of over 3,000 including staff, students, and other key stakeholder groups including trade unions and co-operatives and government ministries and departments.

The major objectives are to increase awareness of our core educational areas, such as Labour, Co-operative, Occupational Safety and Health and related studies and to keep all stakeholders informed and educated on activities at the College.
